Not sure if -ports is the proper place for this, but I might as well continue the thread. Just in case those following this thread missed it, I believe that these noises popping thingies are probably specific to SoundBlaster cards AND xmms. I run the following: specific to SoundBlaster cards AND xmms. I run the following: AMD Athlon 700 stuck atop an Asus K7V running FreeBSD current. ---------------------------------------------------------- FreeBSD host.domain.net 5.0-CURRENT FreeBSD 5.0-CURRENT #2: Mon Jun 19 14:09:00 CDT 2000 user@host.domain.net:/world/src/sys/ compile/HOSTNAME i386 ---------------------------------------------------------- $ dmesg |grep pcm pcm0: <Creative EMU10K1> port 0x9000-0x901f irq 10 at device 10.0 on pci0 $ I originally noticed a severe crackling while using the (complete crap, might I add) OSS driver in xmms. This driver was a major cause of microuptime() errors which would bring the system (an Athlon 700, remember?) to its knees until a reboot. Upon switching to the eSound driver, sound quality improved dramatically and microuptime() are almost non-existant (non-existant-enough that I may say that they are gone). Extrapolate what you may from the above, and good hunting. gh > > I get popping noises during playback with xmms. Haven't tried with > > mpg123. > > Hmm.
