Consider this: a package is just a precompiled port. After a port is compiled it is installed the exact same way as a package. They are registered in the port/package database the same. Thus, the same tools can be used. My lovely artwork: Port | Source | Binary -- Package | Install | Register Both packages and ports get you to the "Binary" stage. The process is the same after that. Both can then be treated as "packages", and you can use the "pkg_" tools on them. Hope that helps.
