Then you will a conventional, workabout FreeBSD system. Don't put things any other place, and don't build things from tarballs yourself without using ports, until you've used the ports approach enough to understand the usual way; in fact, never install something directly yourself or over-ride defaults in the ports unless you already know exactly why you're doing it. -- Brian T.
