FreeBSD 3.1 is a -RELEASE version, meaning that the folks in charge of developing FreeBSD think it was stable enough to be released to the public. All -RELEASEs are stable enough for most users, but they still have a few problems (which always get fixed quickly.) However, *any* version of FreeBSD is rock solid in comparison to any version of Windows, even NT. Information on the Linux compatibility in FreeBSD can be found in chapter 23 of the FreeBSD Handbook: http://www.freebsd.org/handbook/handbook306.html#651 > thanks You're welcome. Remember, questions (like yours) about where to find introductory information and other newbie resources are welcome here, but if you have a technical question about FreeBSD, please send it to the main technical support list at freebsd-questions@freebsd.org. You don't have to be subscribed to that list to send to it, but if you aren't subscribed, be sure to mention it so that people will know to e-mail you a reply.
