But when you wrote about LVD a light popped up that when i boot the system the Adaptec bios reported : ID: 6 QUANTUM VIKING II 4.5WLS 3506 ULTRA2-SE So it is recognised as Single Ended. After browsing www.quantum.com i noticed a jumper called "SE" factory default is Off ie Auto Negotiate. It was ON on my drive... ;-( ;) Which means SE. So after pulling the jumper it reported ULTRA2-LVD ;) This is the risk when someone buys his own parts to build a pc. And a booklet with a scsi drive is probably too much to ask these days. ---- dmesg --- da0 at ahc0 bus 0 target 6 lun 0 da0: Fixed Direct Access SCSI2 device da0: 80.0MB/s transfers (40.0MHz, offset 31, 16bit), Tagged Queueing Enabled da0: 4350MB (8910423 512 byte sectors: 255H 63S/T 554C) (da0:ahc0:0:6:0): tagged openings now 63 ----- dmesg ----- Hmmm looks better... But strange that things like 'iozone 100' don't go any bit faster with this setting.. Anyway thanks for the help.
