please accept my opion

python and moreso perl (the "awk alternative with provi modules") should 
NOT be part of any build make pmake OS distribution TOOL CHAIN

they have continually changed syntax, meaning, and function of even the 
most basic things so to cause BUILD FAILURES

often these are used to do things awk can do for no reason

stick with what works and what is IEEE "almost in stone" especially 
earlier in the build toolchain

remove perl scripts from the build toolchain whether it is linux or BSD

i say that rhetorically because i know who is doing it and i'm sure they 
are not unsure of what they are doing and what impact it has on everyone 
else
