Actually my /usr/src/UPDATING doesn't mention sendmail or bind being changed between 4_3 and 4_4. I've read the RELEASE_NOTES, README, KNOWNBUGS, FREEBSD-upgrade for sendmail. <time elapses> Okay, I think I got it down now. Logging my name server queries I get: From the 4.3 Freebsd machine XX+/199.60.106.40/maadsl.gvpl.victoria.bc.ca/AAAA/IN XX+/199.60.106.40/maadsl.gvpl.victoria.bc.ca.gvpl.ca/AAAA/IN XX+/199.60.106.40/gvpl.ca/ANY/IN XX+/199.60.106.40/gvpl.ca/MX/IN XX+/199.60.106.40/pochta.gvpl.victoria.bc.ca/AAAA/IN XX+/199.60.106.40/pochta.gvpl.victoria.bc.ca/A/IN From the 4.4 Freebsd machine XX+/199.60.106.41/mawire.gvpl.victoria.bc.ca/AAAA/IN XX+/199.60.106.41/mawire.gvpl.victoria.bc.ca.gvpl.ca/AAAA/IN XX+/199.60.106.41/gvpl.ca/ANY/IN XX+/199.60.106.41/gvpl.ca/MX/IN XX+/199.60.106.41/pochta.gvpl.victoria.bc.ca/AAAA/IN XX+/199.60.106.41/pochta.gvpl.ca/AAAA/IN XX+/199.60.106.41/pochta/AAAA/IN XX+/199.60.106.41/pochta.gvpl.victoria.bc.ca/AAAA/IN XX+/199.60.106.41/pochta/AAAA/IN Aack. It is trying to use inet6 and not dropping to inet4 like the 4.3 box does. Yet if I dig with the full name it gives me a valid response but with only "pochta" it gives me the SERVFAIL or SERVERR. I am rebuilding sendmail with the brokenAAAA code to see if that helps. Unless I should be able to dig with the short hostname and have it give a valid response (dig pochta aaaa). I guess I'll start combing the bind website and seeing what else I should be doing. Thank you Scott E.
