quick update: "zpool scrub zroot" seems to have fixed the error on the zroot
pool.  i'm running a scrub on the data pool to see if it fixes the errors t=

as well, but that will likely take a couple of days to finish.  (this is wi=

ossl removed from the kernel config.)
