I'm working on installing PHP and one of the options an application I 
want to use requires 

configure: error: DOMXML requires ZLIB. Use --with-zlib-dir=<DIR>

This is a FreeBSD 4.4-Stable machine.

How can I find out what the zlib-dir is?

A "locate zlib" comes up with all sorts of neat stuff:
