I also get this with my sony clie'. I'm interesting in other quirks to try (see more details below). 'usbdevs -v' will work on the initial plug in. BUT if you remove the clie, and replug it in later, 'usbdevs -v' will freeze (unkillable, unzombieable) while accessing the device.
