This is THE book .. it covers everything in general, really lets
you get your hands dirty from the start ..

from gen config of X to detailed, gen config of Apache,
your shell, Samba, IPFIREWALL, natd, ppp .. if you
are porting over so to speak from another flavor, maybe
not, but it has a lot of good info
