The timeout occurs when i try to burn CDs with the k3b application, after some queries i found this thread: http://www.pubbs.net/kde/200910/40852/ I have no problem burning CDs with cdrecord so i guess this must be an error at the application level as described. This is the verbose message i get. ahcich1: Timeout on slot 2 ahcich1: is 00000000 cs 0000000c ss 00000000 rs 0000000c tfd d0 serr 00000000 ahcich1: AHCI reset... ahcich1: hardware reset ... ahcich1: SATA connect time=0ms status=00000113 ahcich1: ready wait time=25ms ahcich1: AHCI reset done: device found If this case is of any interest for further debugging let me know. Regards and sorry for the noise.
