I'm hoping for something less generic than what I've found in the handbook. It "just works" from MacOS X, as did the old LaserWriter IIf that the Samsung replaced, so I suppose one approach would be to use the Mac as a print server; but I would prefer to print from FreeBSD directly so that the Mac does not need to be up in order to print from the FreeBSD machine.
