My, Grandma, how many devices you have! ;)
I also have a SB 16 PCI. In the kernel I have device pcm -
that's it. Then, once you (re)recompile your kernel, cd
/dev and sh MAKEDEV snd0. That should take care of it.
Worked for me, hope it works for you.
