This could be a problem with your configuration that doesn't cause problems with the 3com card, but I'd think this was unlikely. The CF -> PCMCIA adaptors are just electrical, there are no electronics in them. My guess is that either your adaptor or the CF cards are unhappy. I use CF with a sandisk CF -> PCMCIA adaptor regularly.
