I encountered some problems, but resolved them and am now running Gnome 2.6 on two FreeBSD machines. I encountered two types of problems. One involved an obsolete file in the ports tree that apparently was not removed by the cvsup upgrade process (it was moved to the Attic subdirectory). The other involved ports that depend on glib2* and have other dependencies that needed to be upgraded but wouldn't be upgraded because the upward-recursion specified in step four doesn't include downward-dependencies of dependents of glib2*. This included sdl12 dependent on a newer version of nas, and gstreamer-plugins dependent on a newer version of libmusicbrainz. If you are interested, I have a more detailed description of my upgrade process at http://www.dancingkayak.com/other/freebsd/upgrade.html near the bottom of the page, at the section entitled "Upgrading Gnome from 3.4 to 3.6". -- Bob McDonald
