OK, I got three replies so far and they are all good, but I should have included more info. This card/cable/pcmcia slot are known-good because my laptop dual-boots to Win2k and everything works fine, in fact I just downloaded something at 400k in windoze. That pretty much eliminates the routing and switching issues too, which I know aren't the problem because Cisco stuff is my core competency (yes, I'm actually good at *something* ;). This is an upgrade from Mandrache 8.1 to Free4.6 so I know that this card works fine in the Nix world (pretty old card, I use it for no-headache compatibility). As for the routing...I can no longer reach my default gateway (I could before, not sure what's broke now) and all my hosts are on the same subnet since I'm at home. BTW, for sanity's sake I forced the card and the switch port to 10/half and didn't get anywhere. Sigh. --- Jon Noack <noackjr@compgeek.com> wrote: > > My NIC is an old 3com 3c589c on a p3-700 Toshiba > Tecra > > 8100 with 256MB.
