I very much support this view. I would go even further and recommend splitting the port in an upsmon-only port and another port with everything needed to talk to a UPS. My FreeBSD machine just crashed because I had not seen that the upsmon did not run anymore after an upgrade of the nut port. Fortunately, it wasn't worse than having to wait for all filesystems to be checked. (I need to replace the batteries in the UPS, the holding time was in the order of seconds :-(.)
