Lately our webserver running FreeBSD 4.1.1 Stable has been rebooting unexpectedly. I've been getting the following in my /var/log/messages on boot: > ad0: UDMA ICRC READ ERROR blk# 239 retrying > ad0: UDMA ICRC READ ERROR blk# 239 falling back to PIO mode Originally we thought the hd was failing but after replacing it with a new drive, doing a backup from the old to the new, those errors would show up both when trying to backup to the new disk as well as when booting with the new drive mounted. Either its a coincidence that both drives are bad or there is something wrong with the IDE controller on the main board. My questions is would this cause a system to reboot? often the system will crash when taring up folders with high i/o from the hd, especially when taring up the /usr folder for backups. Is the system crashing because it tries to read a bad block? Any response would be appreciated for this is machine is in production and downtime is getting costly =\ Thanks, Ryan Masse IT / Authoring Tech Mastery Group of Canada, Inc.
