- Click on "K" on the bottom left hand corner of the desktop
- Click on "Control Center"
- Double click  on "Sound" and you should see "sound server" on the list

- Doublle click on "sound server" and you should a checkbox something like 
"start "aRts server "
- Make sure the checkbox is "not" selected

- Then restart KDE
