The same thing happened to me, until I decide to actually "read" the
Makefile (duh!). It appears the command is "make upgrade" (or other
alternatives specified in the Makefile), this will move you from a.out to
elf. Once I did this, things went according to plan, TTYV0 is cranking away
on "make upgrade" as I type.
