Sorry, I avoided your question because Satoshi is still working on the
aout vs elf issues for ports. Until we have a design there, it's best
to hold off making elf changes. I know there are time pressures here,
but the support of aout for 2.2.X/3.0 and elf for 3.X is a tricky problem.
