Boy, you're busy :-) No, you don't need the X sources, but you do need the header files and libs (which are loaded if you choose the right install option). You may also need to make a symbolic link from /usr/include/X11 to /usr/X11R6/include - I can't remember the details for xv, but several of the X ports use the old directory convention, and once it's set up, you don't notice.
