Just to clarify/expand on the title:

The "spurious character" (twiddle from the previous screen) has always been
there, except that it is on a different location.  It is also important to =
note
that it can show as the last twiddle position, i.e., one of -, \, | or /.
I don't remember if it is only present in the lua loader and not in the for=
th
loader.
