Sender: questions-owner@FreeBSD.org Precedence: bulk After a variety of stabs I'm continuing to have difficulty recompiling the boot manager so I don't have to type in "wd(1,a)/kernel" every time to boot from the second of two IDE hard drives. Following suggestions here I modified /usr/src/sys/i386/boot/biosboot/boot.c to specify unit =1 for the drive, then did a make, then a make install, then a "disklabel -B wd0d". At this point I got the following error: Bad pack magic number (label is damaged, or pack is unlabeled) I gather I'm doing something wrong? Thanks as usual, Frank fod@netcom.com
