Same effect. This is from XFree86 4.1.0 that's in ports as of yesterday. I actually couldn't find the second part mentioned (the os-support/linux/drm/kernel/... edit to do. Grep turned up nothing, which I was surprised about. In answer to Matt Meola, yes, it reboots when I do XFree86 -configure too.
