At Joe's suggestion, I killed the upgrade, then hunted down and killed the firebird-bin process (required kill -9). Then cd'ed to /usr/ports/www/firebird, did a make install, it hung again, rebooted to make sure I was starting from a clean slate, cd'ed to /usr/ports/www/firebird and did a make install and this time it make completed (though I'm not sure it actually worked...) Now I'm running a 'gnome-upgrade.sh -restart' and we'll see how things go. I'm not sure that the firebird thing actually finished right, but hopefully I can go back and straighten it out. g.
