I have just tried again, with a fresh install of StarOffice & the
linix libs. It just works... It takes exactly 14 secs from I hit
enter until swriter3 is ready to use...

I dont see any problems here, sorry....

Could you "lend" me the linux telnet you are using, maybe that
can make something surface .....
