This duplicates the Real Life environment almost exactly. Of course if your secondary isn't working then shutting off the primary is somewhat fatal. Much better way to check is to query the secondary specifically. e.g. dig @yoursecondary your.domain.com if you make changes to the primary you can use the above command to check that those changes have been picked up by the secondary.
