Peter, Actually, I have a Fujitsu drive that I recently pulled from one of my older machines that had the same quirk that you seem to be describing. The drive would not recognize properly unless I left off a "large chunk" doing nothing, at the end, amounting to the size of about 2mb. ----- Original Message ----- From: Peter Chiu <pccb@yahoo.com> Date: Sunday, October 8, 2000 7:31 pm Subject: Re: FreeBSD 4.1.1 refuses to see 30GB hard drive as > 2GB > > Did I just waste $200 on a drive that I might not be able to > use, and > > also might not be able to return? > > > I have a Maxtor 40GB and this is my fdisk screen. > I am running 4.1-release. > > Hope this help. > > > Disk name: ad1 FDISK > Partition Editor > DISK Geometry: 14773 cyls/86 heads/63 sectors = 80040114 sectors > (39082MB) > Offset Size(ST) End Name PType Desc > Subtype Flags > > 0 80041248 80041247 ad1s1 3 freebsd > 165 C > > > > -- > Peter > \\|// > (o o) > +-------------------------oOOo-(_)-oOOo---------------------------- > -+ > EMail : mailto:pccb(at)yahoo(dot)com > PGP Key : http://www.pchiu.com/pgpkey.txt > PGP Fingerprint: 949E 0F39 422D 53EA F463 8C06 9E07 5078 838B 4D20 > +------------------------------------------------------------------ > -+ > Sticky bits on disk. > > > > > To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org > with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message > To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message
