Of course nothing keeps you from doing that, as long as you are prepared for it. See: http://www.freebsd.org/handbook/current-stable.html Also, to get to 5.0 current, you'll probably want to go from the most recent -stable code. Or at least the latest 3.5 stable code. The 3.2-Release tools probably can't even compile 5.0-current code.
