The system had been up for about 3 month. I had processes haning and alike. Come to find out, I had used the scroll lock to look at some error message on the console that root was logged in as. Since I run X as a use, I didn't even think about root being logged in on the console. I hit scroll, and syslog entries flew by. Hope this helps, if nothing else FYI. skynyrd@opus.cts.cwu.edu said in email to me: > > The following reply was made to PR i386/8847; it has been noted by GNATS. > > From: skynyrd@opus.cts.cwu.edu > To: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org, support@uunet.ca > Cc: Subject: Re: i386/8847: /usr/sbin/syslogd stops logging > Date: Tue, 29 Dec 1998 19:24:14 -0800 (PST) > > Can you have a look at: > > http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=8865 > > and tell me if your 'random' period of time might actually correspond to > some interval in /etc/newsyslog.conf? > > Also please advise if there is anything else your case has in common with bin/8865. > > -Chris > > > To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org > with "unsubscribe freebsd-bugs" in the body of the message > > -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- _ _ _ _ _ , Loghome living is the ' ) ) ) / // ' ) / / best ! / / / o _. /_ __. _ // /--/ . . _, /_ _ _ / ' (_<_(__/ /_(_/|_
