The BBC website uses RealPlayer -- the package you are looking for is
multimedia/linux-realplayer.   Most online radio is streaming mp3's 
(i.e. .m3u format)   For those, xmms is good.

Installing RealPlayer involves mundo hoop-jumping.  The download page 
is, at this time, http://forms.real.com/real/player/blackjack.html
