It sounds like you are dumping the data to a file on the root partition, not to the tape drive's special node. we use /dev/nrst0 as the tape device's special node. make /dev/nrst0 is a special node : # ls -l /dev/nrst0 crw-r----- 2 root operator 14, 1 Nov 27 13:31 /dev/nrst0 --mark.
