The easiest solution is probably to update FreeBSD 4.X using the official ways described in the handbook, I'd suggest using 4.11, as 4.10 is about to be discontinued, and kernel and base system security fixes are only provided for 4.10 and 4.11 at this time. The ports tree has been requiring FreeBSD 4.8 at a minimum for a very long time now, and I'd expect that even that it requires 4.11 soon enough. -- Matthias Andree
