No, PAO is not (AFAIK) required for V4.0. I have V4.0-R#11 on a Dell
Latitude CPx Laptop, and I didn't require PAO. In fact, the whole setup
was pretty painless. There's still the hassle that Cardbus is not (very
well) supported, but I can live with that for the moment.
