X-BeenThere: freebsd-ports@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting software to FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 02 Jun 2011 01:37:50 -0000 Hi ports@, Any reccomendations what tools are best to edit new PDFs please ? As discussed on another thread on this list, openoffice doesnt build here, so reccomendations of smaller tools would be nice please. Ideally native. I dont really want the hastle of linux emulation, (though rather that than having to boot M$ !!) I need to edit some PDF files I just got from http://www.companieshouse.co.uk & some I will soon get from HMRC (UK/GB tax office) These 2 arms of British Government decided to use iXBRL to do company annual returns & accounts. One is supposed to download 1 of 2 PDFs from them, edit localy & resubmit. "Your accounts data is entered into an intelligent PDF template, which will carry out calculations and validation of the data entered. The template is downloaded and saved to your PC. You can work upon the downloaded template offline, saving and printing drafts as you go." FreeBSD-8.1-RELEASE file reports: CHONLY_v2.1.1.pdf: PDF document, version 1.7 abbrv_accounts_20101231_02046120.pdf: PDF document, version 1.6 8.2-RELEASE xpdf : version 1.6 Does display, but click buttons within doc don't work version 1.7 Does not display properly, just shows: Please wait... If this message is not eventually replaced by the proper contents of the document, your PDF viewer may not be able to display this type of document. You can upgrade to the latest version of Adobe Reader for Windows, Mac, or Linux by visiting http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html. For more assistance with Adobe Reader visit http://www.adobe.com/support/products/acrreader.html. The help text with the 1.6 says: { Adobe Reader 9 system requirements: Windows * Intel® 1.3 GHz processor * Microsoft Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4, Windows Server 2003; Windows XP Professional, Home Edition, or Tablet PC Edition with Service Pack 2 or 3; Windows Vista Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, Ultimate, or Enterprise with or without Service Pack 1. * 128MB of RAM (256MB recommended) * 335MB of available hard disk space * Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0, 6.0 with Service Pack 1, or 7.0; Firefox 2.0 or 3.0 Macintosh * PowerPC® G4, G5 or Intel processor * Mac OS X v10.4.11-10.5.5 * 128MB of RAM (256MB recommended) } The help text with the 1.7 says: { System Requirements - Audit Exempt Full Accounts template You will need to have Adobe Reader software version 9.1 or later to use the Audit Exempt Full Accounts template. The system requirements of Adobe Reader 9.1 are listed below (requirements for later versions of Adobe Reader are available from the Adobe website). The accounts template is a very large file and may take some time to download. Once downloaded response times will vary according to your computer's Operating System, RAM and processor speed. It will improve response times if you do not run any other programmes while you are completing the template. Note: the system requirements listed below ONLY apply to Adobe Reader 9.1 and you may need a more powerful processor and more RAM to achieve reasonable response times when using the template. It has been found that a computer with 1 GB of RAM and a 2.1 GHz Core2Duo processor gave satisfactory results (but should not be considered essential in order to use the template). Adobe Reader 9.1 system requirements: Windows * Intel 1.3 GHz processor * Microsoft Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4, Windows Server 2003 and 2008; Windows XP Professional, Home Edition, or Tablet PC Edition with Service Pack 2 or 3; Windows Vista Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, Ultimate, or Enterprise with or without Service Pack 1 * 128MB of RAM (256MB recommended) * 335MB of available hard disk space * Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0, 6.0 with Service Pack 1, 7.0 or 8.0; Firefox 2.0 or 3.0 Macintosh * PowerPC G4, G5 or Intel processor * Mac OS X v10.4.11-10.5.6 * 128MB of RAM (256MB recommended) * 405MB of available hard-disk space * Safari 2.0.4 or later } Cheers, Julian -- Julian Stacey, BSD Unix Linux C Sys Eng Consultants Munich http://berklix.com Reply below, not above; indent with "> "; cumulative like a play script.
