It's an un-needed work horse that just complicates things. The current direction is toward always using packages first, and now pkg flavors will address many of the reasons previously requiring a port compile, and only as a last resort compiling the single port without requiring the complete port tree being installed. I see "poudriere" as a necessary tool for the builders of the package system and maybe some side case users. But it is not a main stream tool and the handbook should document as such.
