Yes, linux performs better at 'dd' in the non-cache case because linux sends larger i/o's down to the controller than freebsd does. This difference matters little when doing real file i/o. So no, you don't have to switch to linux, and no, linux doesn't actually perform better. This has been discussed many times on this and other mailing lists. Sorry for being grumpy. Scott
