Hi Daniel
On a recent install of 4.1 Release I made notes of how much space gets =
used:

                                            (1K blocks)
                                       / /usr Total
Minimal install 27039 66112 93151
after moving /var & /tmp to /usr 26930 66230 93160
after installing man distro 26930 72783 99713
after installing doc distro 26930 109835 136765
  " " compat 3.x & compat22 26930 115079 142009
  " " kernel sources 26930 157507 184437
  " " the ports collection 26930 228741 255671

So this much would fit on your 402Mbyte HD and still leave some room for
kernel compilation etc. You may find you don't have enough room for X
windows though.

You could reclaim some space by deleting the parts of the documentation
that you don't need (it's in several languages).

Good luck
John.
