While this is OK, there is no reason to drop to single-user before re-booting. In fact, you can now simplify the procedure to: make buildworld make kernel KERNCONF=mykernelconf reboot "-s" fsck -p mount -u / mount -a cd /usr/src make installworld mergemaster R.
