You can still mix as you want. The problems come up when you update. It is then either or. I use two ways to keep my machine as current as possible. I use first svn to get the latest ports tree. I then use portupgrade to compile and install all modified ports. Not using ports during updates is not that important as it hardly saves time. More important is that you can instruct portupgrade to create packages you can then use for other machines without any downloaded or compiling. Erich
