I made the transition from Windows to FreeBSD a year ago (after nearly 20 years of using and admin'ing Windows). Yes, there is a steep learning curve because things in FreeBSD are different than Windows. But after a few weeks, the concepts started falling into place, and the underlying logic and architecture became evident. From that point on, it was more like filling in the gaps than facing a steep learning curve. Looking back at the past year, I can say that the architecture and design of FreeBSD make more sense to me than Windows ever did.
