Subject:   Building system from source

I know there are those out there on the bleeding edge who build the
FreeBSD system up from source code. Are there any advantages to a user
who is not doing development to build from source rather than install
prebuilt binaries? I guess that I am thinking mostly in terms of
performance benefits. If so, how much hard drive space would be needed?
