One workaround was to not use SCSI disks, and instead use SATA. Another workaround was to go into the BIOS config and do the following: o disable Slave MAC (second nVidia ethernet) o disable IEEE 1394 o enable bus master on the SCSI controller In this configuration, RELENG_6/amd64 runs like a champ on this mobo. Unfortunately, my attempts to boot with 7-CURRENT, either the snapshot 8/06 CD or a version build from source supped as of 8/15/06, have met with complete failure. A complete dmesg is included below. The only way I can get 7-CURRENT to boot is by disabling the SCSI controller. However, this box has a nice SCSI backplane and plenty of SCSI disks, and no room for SATA. o The same configuration that works for RELENG_6 doesn't work for CURRENT. I have gone even further and disabled just about everything that the system needs to boot except for the SCSI controller and it still hangs. o The SCSI controller is running the latest BIOS and firmware. o The problem occurs regardless of the version of BIOS that is on this mobo (including beta versions)--I have tested several versions. o I have tried both an amd64 kernel and an i386 kernel, both with the same result. o I built a custom, minimal kernel (using a non-mpt amd64 build machine), that also failed on the s2895. Any ideas? It appears that the driver either isn't understanding this card's handshake registers or it's not able to read the responses to SCSI commands. Here's the dmesg. Let me know if there is other information that I can provide.
