Sometime I am able to reproduce this by do the 'make clean ; make cleandir' in /usr/src, do the buildworld or compile huge stuff to get genome-terminal very busy, then try to create a new tab. It will only resize and I have to keep do that like two to four times to get tab pops up. It doesn't always happen, but can catch this problem by get gnome-terminal very busy as I stated above.
