No promises on yours though. :) I have no idea if that is a laptop hardware, driver, or modem hardware problem. Oh, the X-Jack lights up when it's dialing or connected too. Kinda neat if you want to turn your sound off or don't have on-board sound. Seriously, my only two complaints about this modem are that it's a power hog (actually, I think this is FreeBSD's fault. I don't think FreeBSD knows how to enable power management on PCMCIA or Card Bus slots) and that it doesn't seem to be a full voice modem. I've seen marketing fluff indicate that it can do speaker phone stuff, but I can't seem to get it working with vgetty. The voice mode driver AT commands indicate that it has a beta voice driver for firmware. I'll try to test this thing with Hylafax sometime this week. I'd like to know if it's a decent fax modem too. But if all you need is data, this is the modem for you! > --- Jesse Guardiani <jesse@wingnet.net> wrote: > > phusion wrote: > > > i was wondering what would be a good pc card modem > > > > to > > > > > get that will work in freebsd 5.x with no hassle, > > > please let me know your good experiences with > > > manufacturers and model numbers > > > > I use a: > > > > "3COM Megahertz 56k Global GSM & Cellular Modem PC > > Card with XJACK Connector" > > > > Model #: 3CXM756 > > > > You can get these for less than $30 shipped to your > > door > > from pricewatch. > > > > I have only tested the 56k functionality, not GSM, > > fax, > > or voice. > > > > 56k works great.
