used to
	1) the cmp -s -> BUS ERROR
	2) cp ${T} /etc/motd	-> cp: /etc/motd: Bad address

now only 2 is happening - go figure :-)
it also used to, after it went multiuser, to panic when i did the 
	cmp -s ${T} /etc/motd 

any insights?
