As i see many users complains about their incorrect configurations and misunderstanding of generic things. 1. GPT might work with any GEOM classes and it does work. 2. Yes, you can see some gptboot' and kernel's complains but they are not fatal. Part of they are just because GEOM design. How our booting process works: 1. BIOS calls PMBR. 2. PMBR loads primary GPT and gptboot 3. gptboot/gptzfsboot verifies primary and backup GPT. It can complain about invalid backup header when some GEOM classes had saved metadata in the last sector. But it will work with primary table. 4. The kernel detects GPT on each provider where it can be found. And it will complain that backup GPT header is not in the last LBA for disk providers, but it will detect VALID GPT on gmirror's provider. And it will work with any of them. >> Can you give an example which motherboard does not work? > No. But any EFI-bases or Hybrid BIOS (with traditional BIOS, but > 2Tb+ HDD and GPT support from EFI) could be surprised. Actually, i do not know how you will boot your system without legacy PMBR-way. Our EFI support seems is not finished for the x86/x64. --=20 WBR, Andrey V.
