It starts with that message (or it has on the occaisons when I've been 
able to catch it).

The usual situation is a total hang in X. Very occaisionally a 
ctrl-alt-f1 gets me back to the console, but only after a longish wait 
(5 mins?), and I'm not that patient :-).

Only once did I see "other stuff", and it was followed by an immediate 
reboot after _one_ "Timedout SCB ...." message.
